When I think of humanity, I think of power in numbers. After a devastating event, people are the most strong when they come together. After the Florida school shooting, students all over the country decided that they were sick of hearing apologies, and they need reform. The survivors of the school shooting decided to start the March For Our Lives campaign. This group of young adults wanted to make a statement to the politicians in D.C. and send a message that this issue can no longer be a political bargaining chip.
Before the day of the march, there were countless schools that had their students walk out during the day in protest of the lack of reform towards gun regulations. Gun violence has been such a problem all over the country and millions of people have been affected.
At the march for our lives 200,000 people came and listened to empowering speakers say their peace about the importance of gun reform. Some of these speakers were in their teens, and delivered articulate, powerful speeches which left the audience in tears. People came from all over the country to participate in this movement and show their support for the survivors of the many shootings.
Another example of people coming together was during the Las Vegas shooting. During this horrific event, strangers were doing what ever they could to save one another during a time of hysteria. People who were driving by the concert were packing up their cars to take as many people as they could away from the shooting. Off duty doctors and nurses were trying their best to take care of victims after they were shot.
On a smaller scale, there are amazing acts of humanity everyday, all around us. Last week I was stopped at a stop light when the driver from the car in front of me got out and ran towards his trunk. At first I was so confused but then I realized that he was getting a water bottle from his trunk to give to a homeless man on the side of the street. It was the hottest day of the year so far, and this mans act of kindness was small yet impactful.
