Spring break is always an anticipated event among college students. There are notorious locations like Cancun, Daytona, Punta Cana, Miami etc, where the beaches are filled with rowdy kids looking to blow off some steam and go a little crazy during their week off.
My friends and I wanted to go somewhere warm and tropical, while also avoiding the chaos of the typical college spring break parties. But I must admit, our first idea was Cancun, and it wasn't until a friends parent said that there is no way she would allow her daughter to go to Mexico that we readjusted our plans. While I disagreed with this decision, because I am a strong believer that bad things can happen in even the safest environments, we tried to find somewhere that this mom would allow her daughter to go. The compromise was the Bahamas.
Although the Bahamas were more expensive, my friends and I deemed it was worth it because that way we could all go together rather than one of us having to stay home. So on March 4th, we boarded the plane and took off to the Bahamas (with a layover in Chicago, of course). But as soon as we got there we were blown away by the beauty of the water and the friendliness of the locals. We stayed in an all inclusive resort which was completely new for me. All-incusive is just a different life style. Our first night there we ate at one of the resorts restaurants and when we were finished we asked our waiter what do we do now? He kind of laughed at us, smiled and said "Now you go!" It was incredibly awesome being able to eat whatever we wanted and let's not forget the free drinks too! There were bars in the pool, bars in the beach, bars in the lobby, and it was all free (well kinda).
The resort we stayed at was called the Melia. It was definitely a nice place, but the Baha-Mar next door blew us away. Each night we would sneak over there and run around their huge casinos and lavish gardens. The place was absolutely unbelievable. The first time we drove up, we were surrounded by a 50 foot water fall, with fire shooting out of the middle fountain. This place was not nearly in the price range of our college spring break, but my friends and I made a pinky promise that when we are old and retired, we will come back, but this time stay at the Baha-Mar.
The whole trip was fabulous. We laid out in the sun during the day, and danced and sang in the evening while we met people from all over the world.
As happy I am to be back in my cozy little home, I miss the Bahamas and the amazing time that we had. Also, I am not happy to be back in this weather!
